2 Day Express Sahara Trip: Marrakech to Zagora Desert

2 Day Express Sahara Trip: Marrakech to Zagora Desert

The 2-Day Zagora Express Tour is the most popular short excursion from Marrakech for travelers who want to experience the Sahara, ride a camel, and sleep in a nomadic desert camp under the stars, but have limited time.
While Zagora features stone desert plains (hamada) and smaller sand dunes rather than the giant rolling mountains of Merzouga, the journey crosses some of Morocco’s most dramatic mountain passes, ancient kasbahs, and palm valleys.

Know Before You Go

  1. Dune Heights: Zagora is a flat desert plain (hamada) with low, scattering dunes. If giant golden sand dunes are high on your bucket list, consider taking a 3-Day Tour to Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) instead.
  2. Driving Time: This is an express trip covering roughly 7–8 hours of driving each day through mountain serpentines. Motion sickness tablets are recommended if you are sensitive to winding roads.
  3. What to Pack: Pack lightweight clothes for daytime heat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf for dust protection, and a warm fleece/jacket for desert night temperatures.
