The Ultimate 5-Day Casablanca to Sahara Desert & Marrakech Tour

Tour Overview

The Ultimate 5-Day Casablanca to Sahara Desert & Marrakech Tour is an immersive, action-packed road trip designed to showcase the very best of Morocco in a short time. Starting from Casablanca, this route takes travelers on a scenic loop through the country’s most iconic landscapes—from northern mountain peaks and historic imperial cities to the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert and the High Atlas Mountains.

Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Chefchaouen

Your journey begins in Casablanca with a visit to the grand Hassan II Mosque, one of the world’s largest mosques, featuring a soaring minaret overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Following this tour, take a scenic coastal drive north to Rabat, Morocco’s capital city. Here, you will explore historical landmarks, including the iconic Hassan Tower and the 12th-century Kasbah of the Udayas, famous for its whitewashed residential alleyways and sweeping ocean views.
In the afternoon, travel inland toward the Rif Mountains to reach Chefchaouen, the renowned “Blue Pearl” of Morocco. Arrive in time to settle into your riad and spend the evening strolling through the tranquil, blue-painted streets of the medina, enjoying dinner at a local café in Outa el-Hammam square.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fes

Spend a gentle morning in Chefchaouen capturing photographs in its peaceful mountain setting or shopping for locally handcrafted woolen and woven goods. Midday, depart south through the mountain passes and rolling countryside toward Fes, the spiritual, historic, and cultural heart of Morocco.
Upon arrival in Fes, check into a traditional Moroccan riad located inside the ancient medina walls. Spend the remainder of the afternoon and evening relaxing or dining on authentic Moroccan cuisine, resting ahead of your morning exploration.

Day 3: Fes Walking Tour – Midelt – Merzouga (Luxury Sahara Desert Camp)

Begin the day with a guided half-day walking tour of Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world’s largest car-free urban areas. Accompanied by an official local guide, navigate through historical landmarks, including the Bou Inania Madrasa, the historic Chouara Tanneries, and the vibrant artisan souks.
Around midday, leave Fes behind and travel south across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Pass through Ifrane, known for its alpine architecture, and drive through the cedar forests of Azrou to spot native Barbary macaques. Stop for lunch in Midelt before continuing through the dramatic Ziz Valley, home to vast palm groves and ancient fortification kasbahs.
Arrive at the edge of the Sahara Desert in Merzouga by late afternoon. Trade your vehicle for a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi to watch the sunset over the desert horizon. Conclude the day at a luxury desert camp featuring private en-suite tents, fine dining, traditional Berber drumming, and star-gazing around a central campfire.

Day 4: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate

Wake up early to observe a Sahara sunrise over the sand dunes before enjoying breakfast at your camp. After returning from the dunes, depart westward along the historical “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.”
Stop at the dramatic Todra Gorges, a massive 300-meter canyon cut through the High Atlas limestone walls, providing an opportunity for a walking break along the riverbed. Continue driving through the picturesque rock formations of the Dades Valley and pass through the scenic Rose Valley (Kelaat M’gouna).
Arrive in the evening in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” due to its cinematic landscapes and major film studios. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech or Casablanca

Following breakfast, start the day with a trip to the nearby Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site made up of earthen clay buildings. This historic fortified village has served as a filming location for classic films and series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
From Ait Benhaddou, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (reaching altitudes over 2,200 meters), taking in broad vistas of Berber villages built into the mountainsides.
In the late afternoon, reach your final destination:
  • Option A: Conclude with direct drop-off at your hotel, riad, or the airport in Marrakech.
  • Option B: Continue onward along the highway to complete your circuit with drop-off in Casablanca.
