The 8 Best Day Trips from Fes, Morocco in 2025–2026 – Insider’s Guide

Fes is magical, but some of Morocco’s most spectacular sights are just 1–3 hours away. Skip the overcrowded shared minibuses and explore in comfort with a private 4×4, English-speaking driver-guide, and flexible departure times.

At Amorocco Tour we run these day trips daily from Fes with hotel/riad pick-up and drop-off included. Here are our guests’ absolute favorites for 2025–2026.

1. Volubilis Roman Ruins + Moulay Idriss + Meknes (Most Popular Full-Day)

Distance: 80 km | Duration: 8–9 hours
Walk among the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa (UNESCO site) with triumphant arches, mosaic floors, and olive presses still in place. Continue to the holy hilltop town of Moulay Idriss (panoramic views) and finish in majestic Meknes — Ismaili capital with massive granaries, royal stables, and the iconic Bab Mansour gate.

2. Chefchaouen – The Blue Pearl of the Rif Mountains

Distance: 200 km | Duration: 10–11 hours
The insta-famous blue-washed streets are even more beautiful in real life. Wander the car-free medina, shop for wool goods and goat cheese, hike to the Spanish Mosque for sunset over the blue city. Early start recommended.

3. Middle Atlas: Ifrane, Cedar Forests & Barbary Macaques

Distance: 65 km | Duration: 7–8 hours
Nicknamed “Moroccan Switzerland” — Ifrane’s alpine chalets and stone lion, Azrou’s ancient cedar forest where wild Barbary apes will steal your lunch (in the cutest way), and optional short hike to waterfalls. Perfect in winter for possible snow!

4. Sefrou & Bhalil Village & Caves

Distance: 30 km | Duration: 5–6 hours
A relaxed half-day escape. Sefrou’s charming smaller medina (former Jewish quarter), the famous cherry festival town, then colorful troglodyte houses and inhabited caves in Bhalil. Great for travelers wanting something authentic and quiet.

5. Meknes & Volubilis Only (Shorter Version)

Distance: 70 km | Duration: 6–7 hours
Ideal if you’re short on time or prefer a more relaxed pace. Deep dive into Meknes’ monumental sites and the Roman city without Moulay Idriss.

6. Immouzer & Dayet Aoua Lake (Nature & Birdwatching)

Distance: 50 km | Duration: 7 hours
Peaceful lakes, pine forests, and waterfalls in the Middle Atlas. Excellent for hiking, picnics, and spotting storks, herons, and migratory birds. Very refreshing in summer.

7. Taza & Friouato Caves (Adventure Day)

Distance: 120 km | Duration: 9–10 hours
Explore North Africa’s largest cave system — descend 520 steps into the spectacular Friouato grotto with underground lakes and dramatic stalactites (helmets & headlamps provided). Combine with medieval Taza old town.

8. Azrou, Zaouia d’Ifrane & Mischliffen Crater (Winter Bonus)

From December to March we add the option to see snow, ski, or snowboard at Mischliffen and Jbel Hebri stations — just 75 minutes from Fes!

All our day trips include:

  • Private modern air-conditioned vehicle
  • Professional English-speaking driver-guide
  • All entrance fees & local guides where required
  • Flexibility to customize stops and duration
  • Bottled water & Wi-Fi on board
