Marrakesh Menara Airport
4 – Day
(Driving: ~7–8 hours) Your adventure begins at 7:30–8:00 AM with pick-up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. We cross the High Atlas Mountains through the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass, stopping for panoramic photos of Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.
Our first major stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, the most famous fortified village (ksar) in Morocco and a UNESCO site. This iconic red-clay kasbah has been the backdrop for films such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy. After a guided walk and free time for photos, we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” with an optional visit to Atlas Film Studios (the largest in the world).
Lunch in Ouarzazate or Skoura, then we drive through the Valley of Roses and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to reach the dramatic Dades Gorges. Dinner and overnight in a charming hotel overlooking the gorges.
(Driving: ~5 hours) After breakfast, we take a short walk in the Dades Gorges to admire the bizarre “monkey fingers” rock formations. We then head to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where 300-meter-high red cliff walls create a natural canyon perfect for a refreshing walk.
Continue through the palm groves of Tinghir and the fossil town of Erfoud, famous for its marble and date production. In the late afternoon, we arrive at the gateway to the Sahara: Merzouga.
Here you’ll swap the vehicle for camels and ride into the heart of Erg Chebbi as the sun begins to set, painting the dunes in fiery shades of orange and pink. Arrive at your private desert camp (luxury option with en-suite tents or standard Berber tents), enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber drum music around the campfire, and sleep under an endless canopy of stars.
(Driving: ~7 hours) Wake early (optional) to watch the sunrise over the dunes – one of the most magical moments of the trip – then enjoy breakfast at the camp. Camel trek back to Merzouga (or 4×4 transfer for luxury option).
We visit the historic market town of Rissani (birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty) and its traditional souk (especially vibrant on market days: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday). Drive along the ancient caravan route, passing nomadic families and oasis villages.
In the afternoon, we travel through the beautiful Draa Valley, lined with millions of date palms, before crossing the Anti-Atlas to reach Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight in a comfortable hotel.
(Driving: ~4–5 hours) After breakfast, final visit to the Taourirt Kasbah (optional) or free time in Ouarzazate. We then take the direct road back over the High Atlas Mountains, with stops for photos and coffee. Arrival in Marrakech around 5:00–6:00 PM, where we drop you off at your accommodation or near Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
